Here's the wrap-up for today's games.
Women's Soccer: The Huskies fell to #20 West Virginia, 2-1. Riley Houle scored the Huskies' only goal while Jess Dulski recorded five saves. Connecticut was tied with the Mountaineers at 1-1, but in the 55th minute, Blake Miller gave WVU a lead they would not relinquish. Connecticut and Providence will face off on Saturday at 1:00 PM in Rhode Island. A Huskies win puts them through to the Big East Tournament, but they cannot get a first-round bye. Instead, they will host Notre Dame, Villanova, or Seton Hall on Thursday, October 27th. With a loss, the Huskies can still make the Tournament, if St. John's fails to beat Syracuse. If they tie, the Huskies would go through, but a St. John's win would earn the Red Storm the #4 seed and force the Huskies to play on the road.
Field Hockey: The #4 Huskies defeated the Princeton Tigers 3-1 at George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex, as Anne Jeute scored two goals. UConn improves to 13-1 on the season. Next up, the Huskies will play their second weeknight game of the season, hosting Boston University at 7:00 PM on Wednesday. Video is available on All-Access. Then comes the big game, the one we've been waiting for all season. Senior Day against Syracuse on Sunday, October 23rd at 12:00 PM to determine the Big East regular season champion. But, that does not mean they will avoid Louisville, who will likely get the #4 seed. That being said, the Cardinals have lost four of their last five, and playing them in the First Round might not be such a bad thing. In other news, the #1 Old Dominion Monarchs lost to #7 Duke and #3 Maryland lost to the Monarchs, so there's a chance UConn could move up in the rankings when they are released on Tuesday.
Last week I introduced the weekly UConn Awards segment of this blog. I will post this week's winners later tonight.
