I'm back from Ros Hashanah now. Post should now resume as normal.

Football: The Huskies will be hosting the Western Michigan Broncos at 3:30 PM on Saturday. That game will air on SNY and will be on ESPN3.com for those not in blacked out areas. Check out this release for more info. If it's on TV in your area, you can't watch it online. Thankfully, the Mets cant preempt us anymore since their season is over.

Men's Soccer: Huge showdown this weekend as the Huskies travel to Cardinal Park in Louisville, Kentucky to face the #8/#9 Cardinals. The defending Big East regular and postseason champions fell 1-0 to Notre Dame in their Big East opener and do not want to start 0-2. On the other hand, the Huskies had a close call against Yale on Tuesday night and want to prove they do deserve the #1 ranking. WHUS has confirmed the broadcast, however Louisville may or may not be webstreaming video. Check back online at here to find out.

Women's Soccer: In what has gone from a highly anticipated matchup to a showdown of two disappointing teams, the Huskies will play on ESPNU tonight to face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Huskies handed the Iris their first Big East loss in over 100 games last year in the Big East semifinal, but since then they have both struggled. The Irish became unranked this week And the Huskies are 4-4-2 overall and 1-1-2 in conference. They are tied for fifth place in the American Division, but after West Virginia and Marquette, there are four teams separated by a single point. So it's up for grabs. The Irish are 1-2-1 in Big East and 4-5-2 overall.

Field Hockey: The #4 Huskies defeated the Politically Correct Minutewomen of UMass 4-1 on Wednesday under the lights at Sherman.  Marie Eliene Bolles scored two goals and added two assists. The Huskies are now 8-1 on the season and will host #19 Louisville in a crucial Big East showdown on Saturday at noon. It's probably more crucial for the Cardinals than the Huskies since a loss drops them to 0-2 in conference (sound familiar?) but they've already lost to Syracuse. And if either of the "Big Three" loses to the other two during the regular season, they're not going to the NCAA Tournament unless they win the conference tournament. And they're certainly not hosting a regional if that happens. And we don't host the Orange until October 23, in the penultimate Big East game of the season. After that we travel to Rutgers, which should be an easy win, and also to Princeton, who is having a down year. So basically, if we lose to Louisville, we're counting on beating Syracuse. And we can't be counting on that for the whole season. It's no guarantee and it will be hanging over us. So this is a huge game.

Men's and Women's Basketball: For those who are interested, First Night is October 14th at 7:00 PM. Doors open at 6 PM. Read more here. If you feel (as I do) that First Night is a bunch of overhyped publicity stuff and that you have better uses for your time, that same night, Women's Ice Hockey hosts Minnesota-Duluth and Women's Soccer hosts Pittsburgh, both at 7:00 PM. There should be smaller crowds than normal due to First Night, so bring your friends and party there. And actually see an athletic contest instead of Kimbo Dimbo performing live and in personage. Trust me, you'll be happier.

Men's Ice Hockey: Exhibition vs. Ryerson tomorrow at 8:00 PM. Regular season begins next weekend at Bowling Green.

Women's Ice Hockey: The Huskies get their season underway with the first of two games against RPI/Rensselaer tonight at 7:00 PM. Game two will be tomorrow at 3:00 PM. And apparently the UConn website uses RPI and Rensselaer interchangeably. RPI is the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute so that's acceptable. But most people don't know that. Now you do. The Huskies were knocked out by Northeastern in the opening round of the Hockey East Tournament last year. The top six of eight teams in conference play advance and the Huskies were picked to finish fifth in the preseason. They'll try to do better as we get underway tonight.

Women's Volleyball: The Huskies are at home for two Big East games over the weekend. On Saturday at 2:00 PM, they host Marquette, and on Sunday, the Syracuse Orange visit Gampel Pavilion. So, all you fans of UConn and haters of Syracuse, seize this opportunity. Admission is free, and I'm sure we all like seeing UConn take down Syracuse at Gampel, am I right? So you can sit at mid-court, only a few rows back, for FREE! And see the Orange play UConn at Gampel. Come on now. Which true Husky would pass on that?
