What: Men's Ice Hockey vs. Sacred Heart (Whalers Hockey Fest)
When: Sunday, February 13, 1:00 PM
Where: Rentschler Field
Result: Win 3-1
This was just a magnificent afternoon. First of all, I wound up sitting in seats about three rows back from center ice. They probably would have cost me about $800 at a football game. And I got cupholders. Nice. But as for the game itself, it was amazing. There's something pristine and picturesque about outdoor hockey. It's kind of hard to describe. But despite the freezing cold, seeing these two teams skate back and forth on the outdoor rink was just amazing to watch.
We scored a goal right at the end of the first period to go up 1-0. The Pioneers equalized about midway through the second, but we retook the lead just a few seconds later. We would score a third goal to go up 3-1, and Cole Schneider almost got his third goal on an empty net late but he didn't, to much disappointment. It was still amazing though. But what I'm wondering is why Sacred Heart brought their mascot and we didn't bring Jonathan. Prepping for the basketball game perhaps?
On a bad note, the bus back to campus wasn't where it was supposed to be and I wound up missing it and riding back with the band after the first period of the women's game (still no write-up on that though). Which also meant I didn't get to the men's basketball game until around 6:00 at which point I had poor seats. But more on that in that article.
