There will be away games at USF and Yale and home games vs. Central Florida, Cincinnati, and Rutgers. All other non-conference games are home. AAC Tournament is at Pizza Hut Park in Dallas for Semifinals and Finals. 8-9 matchup will be at location of #1 seed November 8, followed by Quarterfinals November 9 at higher seed. Note: It appears we play all the old Big East teams, plus associate member Old Dominion and new member Temple. However, at the moment Villanova, Georgetown, and Providence are not marked as conference games. Other press releases indicate they are, however. Also, the Providence schedule lists the games against UConn and the other AAC schools as conference games.)

According to the Old Dominion schedule, the BIG EAST tournament will be in Storrs, the Quarterfinals will be on Friday, November 8, the Semifinals that Saturday, and the Championship on Sunday. I do not know if the quarterfinals will feature all 8 teams or not.

Like the women, the men will play home-and-home with teams in the AAC. According to this, we will also host UMass-Lowell, who is transitioning to D1. I would assume this is a regular-season game, but since we played them in an exhibition last year, this could be a previously-scheduled exhibition game.

Men's Ice Hockey:

According to tweets from Will Moran, the non-conference schedule will be (in no particular order) 

2 games At Minnesota State; At Boston University; vs. Union; At Providence; Vs. Sacred Heart (non-league); Vs. Quinnipiac or UMass (Holiday Tournament)

However, it is possible Sacred Heart is a conference game in the first round of the Holiday Tournament, as that usually happens. Actually, it was due to a scheduling error that they decided to keep. Sacred Heart will NOT count as a conference game. (see this tweet)

The American Conference Tournament will be May 21-25 at Bright House Field in Clearwater.  According to Chris Jones, there will be two pools. Teams will play everyone in their pool and the winners play for the championship. AAC Home Series against Temple, Houston, UCF and Rutgers. AAC Away Series at Louisville, Cincinnati, Memphis, and USF. USF will be the back end of spring break.

Game 2-17-85: Men's Basketball vs. Syracuse (and Gameday)

This post is in two parts, the first is about College Gameday and the second is about the game.

Result: N/A

I arrived at 7:30 and worried I'd be far back on line. I wound up sitting with a friend a few rows up in the top level, but close to center. This of course, meant I would not be on TV, but I didn't mind. Anyway, this was somewhat interesting. It's kind of hard to summarize though if you didn't see the show. They had giveaways before and after, but I didn't win anything. And of course, we got to watch the show. It was awesome, but I really have nothing to say about it.

What: Men's Basketball vs. Syracuse
When: Saurday, February 25th, 9 PM
Where: Gampel Pavilion
Result: Loss, 71-69

Well, this was disappointing. We trailed by 17 points in the first half, and it looked over. Fortunately we managed to come back. You could literally feel the bleachers shaking when we hit a game-tying shot late. Alas, it was not meant to be. After the score bounced around a few times, the Orange went up 71-69. We inbounded it and called timeout. So we inbounded it again with 5.4 seconds left. But then we couldn't even get a shot off until after the buzzer went off. Truly pathetic. There is no excuse for this loss. Still, we sort of came together towards the end and just couldn't finish. Or Syracuse collapsed at the end and we almost got lucky. Take your pick. Anyway, I have a lot of family who went to SU and/or live in Syracuse, so now I'm going to have to endure them for the next year. But we'll face the Orange again next year, unless they jump to the ACC, and that won't happen yet most likely. So I'll have a couple more chances to watch the Huskies beat the Orange. For now though, I am 1-3 in UConn-Syracuse games, the one win coming in a women's basketball game on Senior Night last year. Let's look at some other teams the Huskies have struggled against when I go:

Boston University: 1-3 (Men's Soccer, Women's Ice Hockey, Softball)
Notre Dame: 1-2-2 (Women's Soccer, Men's Soccer, Women's Basketball, Men's Basketball)
Northeastern: 0-1-1 (Women's Ice Hockey)
Robert Morris: 0-2 (Men's Ice Hockey)

Of all the teams I have seen in multiple sports, the teams we have the worst winning percentage against are Syracuse and BU. We host the Orange in women's lacrosse March 24th, and I will probably be at that game. We also play three softball games against the Orange April 28-29. So there is still time for me to turn around the Orange Curse this year. But obviously, basketball is the biggest sport for 'Cuse games.

Weekend Preview November 11th-13th, 2011

A big weekend coming up. Big East Soccer Championship, opening rounds for Field Hockey NCAA Tournament, and of course, BASKETBALL OPENING NIGHT!!!!!! Let's take a look.

Red Bull Arena will host the
Big East Tournament today
and Sunday.

Men's Soccer: The Big East Championship semifinal is tonight at 5:00 PM against Louisville. That game is live from Red Bull arena on CBS College Sports Network. The Huskies defeated Louisville 1-0 earlier this season. Of course, the winner will get the winner of St. John's-Villanova on Sunday at noon. That game is on CBSCS and BigEast.tv. We will also be heading to the NCAA Tournament next weekend, and will likely be hosting straight through to the quarterfinals if we can win this tournament. Even if we lose today or Sunday, we might. Also, seven Huskies won postseason conference awards. See here for more details.

Field Hockey: The Huskies will be hosting the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday and Sunday. At 11:30 AM on Saturday UConn will take on the Princeton Tigers. At 2:00 PM on the same day, Penn State faces Northeastern. The winners square off at 2:00  on Sunday. The winner of that game advances to the National Semifinal on November 18th in Louisville. Any UConn games during the semifinals or final will be on All-Access free.

Men's Basketball: Huskies open up the season tonight vs. Columbia. It should be a blowout. We're ranked #4 in the nation, and they are at the bottom of the Ivy League. Kemba may be gone, but this is still an excellent team. I just hope we have the team chemistry to win games. That's my biggest concern.

Women's Basketball: The women open on Sunday vs. Holy Cross. Another blowout. We beat them by 80 last year. We  may not have Maya Moore, but we're still a Top 5 program. And the fact that we're surprised to "only" be #5 should say something about how great our program is.

UConn Sports Roundup, November 7th

Big weekend just ended. Here we go...

The Huskies, led by Tony Cascio, got the win against Rutgers.
They will look to beat Louisville on Friday.

Men's Soccer: The Huskies advanced to the Big East semifinals by defeating Rutgers, 3-1. The Scarlet Knights led 1-0 at halftime, but UConn battled back to win 3-1. Things got a bit chippy at the end with perhaps some punches being thrown. No word yet on suspensions. In any case, the Huskies will advance to the Big East semifinals Friday at Red Bull Arena, where they will face Louisville at 5:00 PM. Winner gets the winner of Villanova-St. John's on Sunday at noon.

Field Hockey: The Huskies lost to Syacuse, 3-2 in the Big East Championship game. The selection show for the NCAA tournament is tomorrow at 8:00 PM on the NCAA's website. The Huskies went down 3-0 early, but almost managed another comeback. Oh well. Let's do better in the NCAA Tournament.

Women's Volleyball: The Huskies lost 3-1 to West Virginia. This eliminates their slim postseason hopes. We do, still, have two road games at Rutgers and Seton Hall next weekend.

Men's Basketball: Former UConn player Kevin Freeman has joined the team as a coaching staff. More info here. Also, the Huskies beat C.W. Post, 91-61 in an exhibition. The real season starts Friday night vs. Columbia on ESPNU at 7:00 PM.

UConn Sports Rounup, October 31, 2011

Happy Halloween, everybody. Internet is still out in the Koch household so I am here at Starbucks. Here is the rundown...


Men's Soccer: The Huskies' late-season collapse continued yesterday, as they lost 1-0 to Seton Hall. The Pirates had previously been winless in Big East play. Nevertheless, they pulled off their second major upset of the year, following the 0-0 tie with then-#1 Maryland. We will earn the #3 seed in the Big East Tournament, and will host DePaul with the date and time TBD, though it will likely be Wednesday or Thursday.

Women's Volleyball: The Huskies pulled off their second straight win, defeating DePaul, 3-1. After falling in set 1, 25-14, the Huskies beat the Blue Demons the next three times, 26-24, 25-21, and 25-20. Next up, we host West Virginia and Pitt on Friday and Sunday at 7:00 PM and 2:00 PM, respectively. The Mountaineers and Panthers rank in the bottom of the Big East standings. Then, we wrap up with Rutgers and Seton Hall on the road, both of whom are at or below .500. With a little help, we could theoretically make the Big East Tournament by winning out.

Men's Basketball: Just three days until the Huskies open their exhibition schedule with a contest against American International. That game is at 7:30 PM on UConnHuskies.com and WTIC.
